The radiator, the pull-up station, and Blue
Everything costs too much. Here's what I did about it, plus new old music.
This week I put a new radiator in my girlfriend’s CR-V. A YouTube video, some patience, and Claude talking me through the parts I second guessed (which were a lot). Pep Boys quoted her a number I won’t repeat, for a diagnosis I’m not convinced was accurate. So I did it in the driveway.
Would I rather have been finishing one of the new recordings I’m working on? Yes. But here’s a philosophy that’s been serving me well: every necessity you don’t get overcharged for buys future time for whatever you’re actually here to do. So I sucked it up, ordered around $400 in tools and parts and got busy.
But if you're betting on future time, you have to try your best to stay healthy. Same logic behind the outdoor pull up station I'm building in the yard. Gym memberships are rent for someone else's equipment. The ground is free, the bar is cheap, and the commute costs zero gas. The only thing I ever truly loved about a gym was Planet Fitness being open 24 hours for thirty bucks a month. That's less a fitness plan and more a strategy for people in between homes. I may know that from personal experience.
Now about the music.
Blue is out today on all streaming platforms.
It’s an older song of mine. Between now and October I’m bringing a lot of the back catalog to streaming. Partly to introduce myself to some new listeners, partly so the people who live on those platforms can actually find the music.
Here’s the link the label gave me to share. Using it also shows them I’m not just handing over songs and going to bed:
Whether you're revisiting it or hearing it for the first time: stream it, play it twice, hit save. This helps me connect the music to more people. And I'm thinking some of you, him, her, them, whatever color you showed up in, may relate to Blue. It's a very relatable color.
And I’d love to hear from you. Any DIY projects lately? The fun kind, or the not-fun kind you did out of necessity because everything costs too much now? A friend just sent me a system for growing sprouts in jars. Apparently very healthy. Oatmeal gets old after a while. That’s probably next.
